You already spend enough time researching, writing, and editing your blogs, but unfortunately, that isn’t always enough if you plan on improving your google ranks. If you want your blogs to get views, you’re going to need to ensure you are doing everything you can to boost your SEO rank and make keyword considerations. This is less of an all-encompassing list, and more of a checklist of things to remember when writing your blogs to improve your rankings.
1. Content Length Matters
While short and sweet may be what some readers are after, if you are aiming for a higher rank in google, “thorough” should be your strategy. Of course, if an article is too long and poorly organized, expect a bounce. A well-organized article can make a long article the perfect resource as it quickly allows you to find all the information you want on one page - and isn’t that what we all want? The sections may be concise, but the reader should feel satisfied with the answer without feeling the need to do deeper research. If you feel like you have been concise but your article still seems too short, try adding more sections covering different aspects of the topic; this will add to its thoroughness without making it seem like too much.
Headings help crawlers not only know your main topics, but also how to quickly find the information. This makes it easier for search engines to locate the information someone is looking for. The same is true for adding headings in videos. For example, when you search for “how to clean a paint brush,” Google search may turn up a clip about “cleaning a paint brush” even though it was inside another video called “Everything you need to know about paint brushes.” Organization makes info easier to find, making headings important for SEO.
When it comes to blog writing, consistency is key. Consistency is a sign of reliability, and it is not just beneficial for your readers, but it helps with your SEO as well. Blogs are like a heartbeat, and if your website goes too long without a blog post or update, it could look like your website is flatlining. Regularly posting blogs is crucial if you are expecting them to increase your SEO score.
4. Synonyms & Key Phrases
While you can pack your blog full of the same overused key phrases, you don’t have to sound like a broken record to get the google bots to notice you. Crawlers can pick up synonyms and similar phrases, which means you don’t have to sacrifice quality writing to rank higher. Use an SEO assist website with a keyword generator to find out similar keywords and phrases you can use to hit all the keywords without veering off-topic. This will help your blog sound more organic and you won’t get scrutinized for keyword stuffing.
5. Internal Linking
While backlinking is a big help, you can’t control who backlinks to your blog. However, you can link internally. This makes it easier for people to navigate your website by linking to other similar blog topics they may be interested in, which could even help keep your bounce rate lower.
6. Long Tail Keywords
The more specific your keyword or phrases are, the less likely you are to be up against a lot of competition. Yes, less people are typing in that phrase, however, you also have fewer competitors vying for the top spots. Small guys don’t stand much of a chance against the giant corporations who have teams of SEO specialists ensuring they get the top spots on the high value keywords. So, rather than compete with them, aim for more specific phrases others may not be shooting for, cause let’s face it, if you aren’t on that first page or two, no one may ever see your article.
7. Image Names
Not only is it great to have images on your blog posts, but even the titles of those images can help those crawlers know how useful your picture is. It can even help the picture’s ranking in Google images, so don’t forget to name your images accordingly.
8. Local Names
Because Google results can vary based on location, adding in your city name can help with SEO. For example, if your business is located in Nashville, Tennessee, find a way to work it into your blog (like I just did), so it will rank higher in local searches. This is especially important if you are a smaller business that relies on local clients.
9. Refresh Your Blogs
After you publish a blog, it’s not a “goodbye” but a “see you later.” After a time, you need to revisit your blogs and update them by adding new information or fresh statistics. This helps with ranking, as it lets Google know the page has not been forgotten.
